The nursing community in Abuja has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Nurse Chinemerem Pascalina Chuwumeziem, a staff member of the VIP wing at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja.
Nurse Chinemerem was reportedly attacked on January 3, 2026, shortly after finishing her afternoon shift and heading home. She never arrived.
Colleagues at FMC Abuja described her as a committed, compassionate professional whose life was cut short in a cruel and senseless manner. Speaking under anonymity, one nurse said the loss has left the hospital community devastated.
“She lived to care for others. To lose her this way is unbearable. We are mourning not just a colleague, but a genuinely kind soul who served humanity until her final day.”
Sources within the hospital confirmed that Nurse Chinemerem is believed to have fallen victim to ‘one chance’ criminals, notorious for posing as commercial drivers before robbing and violently attacking unsuspecting passengers.
According to colleagues, she closed from duty on Friday but failed to return home. Her body was later discovered by the roadside and taken to the FMC Jabi mortuary.
The incident has reignited concerns over the growing insecurity faced by healthcare workers and other essential staff who commute daily across Abuja. Advocacy groups, including Fellow Nurses Africa, have called on security agencies and government authorities to take urgent action to curb the menace and better protect workers whose jobs place them on the frontlines of service.
Investigations into the killing are ongoing.
As tributes continue to pour in, the thoughts of many remain with Nurse Chinemerem’s family, friends, and colleagues, as they grapple with a loss that should never have happened.
