Rivers Lawmakers Make Dramatic U Turn, Back Impeachment of Governor Fubara

There is fresh drama in the Rivers State House of Assembly. Four lawmakers who recently withdrew from the move to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara have now changed their minds. They announced today that they are fully supporting the impeachment move against the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

At a press briefing on Friday in Port Harcourt, the lawmakers accused the governor of showing no remorse over the allegations raised against him by the Assembly.

This twist comes barely twenty four hours after the Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule failed to resume plenary on Thursday, exactly one week after it last sat. It was at that last sitting that the House opened impeachment proceedings against Fubara and Odu for what it described as gross misconduct.

The allegations include the demolition of the Assembly complex and the spending of public funds without legislative approval.

Think about where this leaves the politics of Rivers.
