The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will not allow himself to be sidelined or politically buried ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that repeating past mistakes linked to the Rivers State governorship would amount to political suicide.
Wike made the statement on Saturday while addressing residents of Okrika during a thank-you tour of local government areas in Rivers State.
Reflecting on previous political decisions around the Rivers governorship, the former governor said he has learnt his lessons and would not make the same error again.
According to him, reneging on established political agreements would only hand victory to opponents, a scenario he said he would strongly resist.
“Agreement is agreement,” Wike said, reaffirming his long-standing position on political loyalty and arrangements in the state. He stressed that while his camp has taken a firm decision on President Bola Tinubu, there would be no compromise on other political alignments in Rivers.
“If we make another mistake, they will go and bury themselves politically. I will not allow myself to be buried. I will not allow that mistake again,” he declared.
Wike described his political base as the ‘Renewed Hope family’, warning that only genuine members would be recognised as the political landscape evolves ahead of 2027.
“I want to assure you that this is a Renewed Hope family. If you are not a member, we will meet you in the field. If you are not an original member and not a fake one, we will face you in the battle,” he said.
The minister also warned his opponents not to underestimate his resolve, insisting that his camp was fully prepared for the political contest ahead.
“They have not seen anything yet. We will do what we know how to do as events unfold,” Wike added.
The comments are the latest indication that political tensions in Rivers State remain far from settled as the countdown to 2027 begins.
