Singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, appeared before the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, on Monday to face a nine-count criminal charge.
According to Ogun State Police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the charges include assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting lawful arrest.
The arraignment followed the circulation of a viral video on Sunday showing the artiste in police custody after a complaint reportedly filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.
Prosecutors alleged that Portable assaulted Ashabi, several police officers, and other individuals during an incident at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on New Year’s Day.
Complainants listed in the court filings include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
The singer was also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 with dealer number Wally Dex Auto, valued at 12 million naira, and belonging to Ileyemi.
During the hearing, two of Ashabi Simple’s siblings testified as witnesses to the alleged assault, although she was not present in court.
Police further claimed that Portable obstructed and assaulted Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi while she was performing her lawful duties.
The presiding judge declined to grant bail, noting that the female police officer at the center of the assault allegation was not present. The court insisted on hearing from her before deciding on the bail application.
Consequently, Portable was remanded in custody pending a fresh bail consideration scheduled for January 19.
