Most Wanted Drug Kingpin Finally Caught After 12 Years

After twelve years on the run, alleged drug kingpin Lekan Jimoh, better known as Kanmo Kanmo, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA. The arrest took place on Friday January 16 2026 in Owode town in Ogun State after intelligence driven operations by NDLEA tactical teams. Officers say a search of his hideout led to the discovery of 69 kilograms of skunk, a type of cannabis.

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Jimoh has been on the agency’s wanted list since June 15 2014. He is accused of mobilising armed men to attack NDLEA operatives who attempted to arrest him at his base. Three officers, including Rabiu Usman Kazaure, lost their lives in that incident.

In August 2023, NDLEA officers raided his residence in Ado Odo in Ogun State. They recovered 139 sacks of cannabis weighing 1,922 kilograms. Jimoh escaped but the court later ordered that the property be forfeited to the Federal Government.

NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Buba Marwa retired praised officers across Ogun, Lagos, Apapa, Edo, Delta, Oyo, the Federal Capital Territory, Enugu and Kwara for their coordinated efforts and major seizures. He described the arrest of Kanmo Kanmo as a victory for justice and a warning to drug barons and fugitives that the law may take time but it does not sleep.
