Former Kano State governor and ex Minister of Defence, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has stated that he is open to joining a political party or coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, but only under clear conditions.
Kwankwaso said any party seeking his participation must be willing to offer him either a presidential or vice presidential ticket, making it clear that he is not interested in playing a secondary role in any alliance.
“We are looking for a party, but they must agree to give me a presidential or vice presidential ticket,” he was quoted as saying.
Kwankwaso contested the 2023 presidential election under the New Nigeria Peoples Party and finished a distant third, behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party candidate Peter Obi.
Speculation has continued to trail his next political move, with reports suggesting that he is under pressure to align with the African Democratic Congress. At the same time, sources say the ruling All Progressives Congress is also making efforts to lure him into its fold as part of plans for President Tinubu’s re election bid in 2027.
Kwankwaso’s stance signals that he remains a significant political force whose support could shape future alliances as the countdown to the next general election gathers pace.
