The Nigeria Police Force has once again suspended the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy following an interim court order restraining the move.
The enforcement, which was scheduled to begin on January 2, 2026, was put on hold after the Police were served with the court order. The development was confirmed on Thursday in a statement issued in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
The Police had earlier announced on December 15, 2025, that it would resume enforcement of the policy as part of efforts to improve public safety and strengthen internal security across the country.
However, according to the statement, the Force was later served with an interim order in Suit No. HOR FHR M 31 2025 dated December 17, 2025. The order restrains the Police from proceeding with the enforcement pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or the lifting of the order.
In response, the Police said it has entered appearance in the matter, raised preliminary objections, and applied for the interim order to be vacated. The case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
The Force said it has therefore placed the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on hold nationwide in strict compliance with the subsisting court order.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to uphold the rule of law while carrying out its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.
The Police also assured the public that lawful and intelligence driven measures would continue to be deployed to address security challenges across the country, adding that citizens would be informed of any further developments after the court’s decision.
