AFCON: Pastor Adeboye Mocks Failed Prophecy About Ademola Lookman, Calls for Discernment Among Believers

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has sparked conversation again — this time about prophecy, discernment, and a bit of AFCON drama.

During a recent programme at RCCG’s Redemption City, Adeboye urged worshippers to exercise caution when interpreting spiritual declarations, warning about the rise of what he called “funny funny prophets.”

Without naming anyone, he referenced a viral prediction made ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The prophecy suggested that Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman should be dropped from the team, implying poor results if he played.

As it turned out, the prediction couldn’t have been more off. Lookman scored the winning goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 opening victory over Tanzania and followed up with a goal and two assists in a 3-2 win against Tunisia, helping the Super Eagles reach the knockout stage.

Laughing about the failed prophecy, Adeboye told the congregation, “I said, glory be to God,” noting that the player who was supposedly “meant to be excluded” ended up deciding the match.

The cleric stressed that genuine prophecy remains sacred but cautioned believers against elevating every claimed revelation. He also clarified his own role, saying, “Me? I am not a prophet, I am a pastor,” emphasizing that his comments targeted self-styled prophets seeking attention, not true messengers of God.
