The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially unveiled the timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 General Elections, confirming Saturday, February 20, 2027, as the date for the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The announcement comes amid concerns over the delayed passage of the amended Electoral Act, which is still under consideration by the National Assembly. Despite this, INEC had earlier indicated on February 4, 2026, that preparations for the election schedule had been completed.
According to the timetable, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on February 20, 2027, while Governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2027, exactly two weeks later.
Campaign Windows
INEC has also outlined official campaign periods for political parties:
Presidential and National Assembly campaigns: November 18, 2026 – February 19, 2027 Governorship and State Assembly campaigns: December 15, 2026 – March 5, 2027
This ensures that all campaigns end 24 hours before the elections, as required by law.
Voter Registration and Candidate Primaries
Preparations for the elections include Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), which will run from April 2026 to January 2027, giving eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register or update their voter information.
Political parties are expected to conduct primaries between July 1 and September 30, 2026, with submission of candidates’ lists to INEC from October 1 to October 31, 2026. The final list of candidates will be published on November 15, 2026.
