Lecturer Dies After Collapsing During Visit to Young Woman’s Residence in Minna

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 53-year-old lecturer, Abdulfatai Aiyede, who reportedly collapsed and died while visiting a young woman at her residence in Minna, the state capital.

Police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, said the incident was reported on January 27, 2026, at about 10 a.m. According to him, Aiyede, who was said to be from Bida, had travelled to Minna to visit a 25-year-old nursing student, Stella Joseph, at her home.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the young woman served the lecturer a meal during the visit. Shortly after eating, Aiyede reportedly began to convulse and collapsed. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Minna for emergency treatment but was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Abiodun disclosed that Stella has been arrested in connection with the incident, while investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. He added that the body of the deceased has been taken for medical examination to determine the exact cause of death.

The police say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
