Boy and Friends Arrested Over Death of His Aunt and Six Children in Kano

The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested three suspects linked to the killing of a woman and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano metropolis.

Those arrested are Umar Auwalu, 23, from Sabuwar Gandu; Isyaku Yakubu, known as Chebe, 40, from Sagagi; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, called Wawo, 21, from Sharada. According to police, Auwalu who is a nephew of the deceased woman is believed to have led the group.

The incident took place on January 17, 2026, inside the family home. A distress call was made shortly after and police launched a coordinated operation ordered by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and supervised by the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

Police Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said the three suspects were arrested between 10 pm on January 17 and 4 am on January 18. During questioning, Auwalu allegedly admitted involvement and claimed the group had carried out similar criminal acts in the past.

According to police, the same syndicate is suspected to be behind other violent crimes in Kano, including the killing of two housewives in Tudun Yola. Items recovered include clothing believed to have been worn during the incident, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a locally made club, cash, and other items.

Investigations are still ongoing to identify more accomplices and establish the full scope of the group’s activities. The police commended officers involved in the operation and thanked the public for providing useful information that aided the arrests.
